Chapter 15, pg 129

"The days had folded one into another and mixed. . .
Real time he measured in events. A day was nothing to remember . . . "

1.What does the author mean by saying that the days folded one into another?

2. If you were Brian, what would be the most important 'days' in that wilderness?

1) The general meaning of fold is to bend a piece of paper. In this case, I think fold means to gently mix something in to another. It means the days covered each other and eventually mixed.
2) You won’t remember a day if nothing special happened that day, it just comes and goes. But if there is something special happening on that day, it may just be a minor incident but I think I will remember it(not forever of course). If I am Brian, I would remember the days which I first learnt something new in the wild.

1. It means that the days passed one after the other.
2. I think the most important 'days' in the wilderness would be when we learned some survival instincts and after learning those we could make use of it, like learning how to hunt food and get shelter and other stuff too.

The author means the days passed in a very short amount of time, probably because they were uneventful. The most important days in the wilderness will be when something extraordinary happens and it benefits you in some way.

1)It means that the day is becoming bad to worse or better by each day, but I think it is getting from bad to worse as the sentence showed that "A day was nothing to remember . . . " which means that there is nothing so good to remember about.

2)If I were Brian, I would say that if I learnt something which benefits me for my whole life to survive in wilderness, like learning how to look out for dangerous or poisonous animals is the most important day.

Reflection on Hatchet Debate

Within 1 hour, 39 pupils spoke out and shared some of their thoughts on a given topic and in so doing allowed others to have insight of their own beliefs and values - think of the 'Perfect Home' discussion.

I would like to applaud the 39 individuals for bringing such a professional quality to the debate - all contributed to its success and the 'energy' that resulted from this concerted effort will be converted into greater motivation for 6 Grace.

Please take time to reflect and share your thoughts on the following:

How did this debate affect my perceptions of myself?
In what ways did the debate fit my learning style?
Has it influenced the way I perceive English and Literature?
What did the debate show us about the 'tricks' authors use to captivate the heart and mind of the reader?

I had such pleasure hosting the debate and I felt the true magic of 6 Grace.

Please post your thoughts. Thank you.
