I would bring a knife, a compass, a first aid kit, a jacket and a lighter. I would bring a knife to kill animals for food, cut the stems of a plant for water and protect myself from predators. I would bring a compass so that I can find my way and know which direction I am going, if I get lost. I would bring a first aid kit because if I get injured, I can bandage myself so it can heal faster. I would bring a jacket to cover myself and keep myself warm at night, so when I sleep, I will not catch flu so easily. I would bring a lighter to cook the animals I killed, use it as torchlight to find my way in the dark and build a fire to keep mItalicyself warm.

Q1- 5 items that i need...

1. Lighter
2. Cooking pot
3.Clothes
4.Tissue box(200 sheets)
5.Swiss knife

1.Lighter-I don't think in the middle of the night when there's no light there would be a street lamp provided in a deserted island for me so this is when the lighter is a great hero, not only to see but also keep me warm when the temperature is really low.
2.Cooking pot-I choose not to bring water bottles along with me because imagine the weight of all of the bottles of water that i have to carry.I would prefer to get some water from the lakes or the beach and boil it,and if i am lucky enough to make a fishing rod and fish,i can use it to cook the fish.
3.Clothes-This is something i would never forget if i am leaving my country,to keep myself warm.Change if i stink.(Don't laugh, not funny)
4.Tissue box-For me,i think tissue is really quite important and for hygine purposes its a big thing.
5.Swiss Knife-Somehow,to protect myself and to use it to cut fruits and maybe fishes.
-These is all i need to bring if something like this would happen to me and if you ask me what would i do to spent the rest of the time,i guess explore!(and hope i am lucky enough to survive.)~Audrey Lee
If i only can bring 5 items , they are:-
1)Swiss army knife
2)2 gallons of water
3)First Aid Kit(include seawater desalting kit)
4)fishing kit
5)A packet of hard bread

The swiss army knife is for multipurpose use such as cutting fruits , vegetables and meat . 2 gallons of water for drinking , fishing kit for fishing for fish if there is nearby waters , seawater desalting kit for desalting seawater and first aid kit for nursing wounds . last but not least , A packet of hard bread which is high in calories to survive for a few days.

i were bring a knife, a lighter ,a cooking pot, sleeping bag and first-aid kid. i bring a knife as i can defend myself from wild animals,a lighter can be useful as i can use it to cook my food and i can also use it to burn wood to keep my body warm during a cold day ,a cooking pot can be used to boil the water i collected in this island and for cooking food,a sleeping bag as i can sleep comfortably in the place and a first-aid kid as when i feel sick and get injured i can use it to cure my wounds or my sickness. from jiade
Q2.
I expect many people in the world to have secrets, like me. I kept it for a year(very long) Ummm...what effects are there? When people ask me about it,i have to say i don't want to tell them and it's not a very nice thing to do. So, that's the effect.

The 5 things I would bring..
1)A huge water bottle. (with water inside of course!)
2)Few pieces of bread.
3)A matchbox.
4)Paper.
5)First-aid Kit.

Explanation~
1)Water is one of the most important daily needs. If there is no water, I reckon nobody can survive unless there is no such thing as water in this world.
2)Bread is the only thing that can make me full, even a little piece.(I'm speaking the truth.)
3)When night falls, I can light up a matchstick and see what is going on around me and I can also get warmth so I would not freeze to death.
4)I can burn paper instead of wood to help and save the trees!(I don't know if this can be counted or not.)
5)I can bandage my wounds if i get injured.

If i was to pack my own survival kit, this is what i will pack:

  • My jacket
  • A box of matches
  • Food(biscuits...)
  • First aid kit
  • Mosquito repellent

My jacket to prevent me from getting cold as the forest is really cold at night. A box of matches so that i get warmth and light. It is also good for scaring out animals that might hurt me and steal my food. Food is, of course, essential for survival so if i am injured and cannot hunt for food (animals),those biscuits can be used as backup. First aid kit to bandage my wounds if i am injured by something. Mosquito repellent because i truly hate those mozzies.

If i have to spend a month alone on a desserted island, i would like to bring a kife or an axe, a compass, alot of matchsticks, a very big tent and if can, i also like to bring a laptop with internet too!
When i reached the island i will start to make the tent inorder to sleep, after making the tent i will take the compass to see where was my location. In the island there surely have animals and plants, and now the knife or the axe have its function, it was to kill the animals to get food and there was some plants if you cut some part of it, it will have water came out and the knife or the axe can use to protect myself. When some animals were killde by me i will bring them to the location where i live and use the matchsticks to roast the animals to eat. Finally, when the night time came i will use the laptop to play or chat. I think repeat the following things for a month i will not hungry, thirsty or bord.

Reflection on Hatchet Debate

Within 1 hour, 39 pupils spoke out and shared some of their thoughts on a given topic and in so doing allowed others to have insight of their own beliefs and values - think of the 'Perfect Home' discussion.

I would like to applaud the 39 individuals for bringing such a professional quality to the debate - all contributed to its success and the 'energy' that resulted from this concerted effort will be converted into greater motivation for 6 Grace.

Please take time to reflect and share your thoughts on the following:

How did this debate affect my perceptions of myself?
In what ways did the debate fit my learning style?
Has it influenced the way I perceive English and Literature?
What did the debate show us about the 'tricks' authors use to captivate the heart and mind of the reader?

I had such pleasure hosting the debate and I felt the true magic of 6 Grace.

Please post your thoughts. Thank you.
