Chapter 10, pg 97

"He had forgotten to think about them and that wasn't good. He had to keep thinking of them because if he forgot them and did not think of them they might forget about him."

1. Explain clearly why Brian forgot to think about the searchers?

2. Do you agree with Brian that if he doesn't think about the seachers, no one would search for him? Tell us why.

1.He had been too busy finding food and observing the forest that he completely did not have time to just think about why the seachers have not found him yet.
2.I do not agree with Brian as i believe that Brian is just trying to let himself believe that there will be people rescuing him and that it would be possible for him to go home.I also think that if Brian does not think about the seachers, they would still save him because there will be someone who keeps in alive in his or her heart and will always try to find Brian regardless of where he is.

1)Brian had been thinking about many things such as finding food, shelter that he almost forgot about the searchers.
2)I disagree with Brian as even if does not think about the searchers, his parents or loved ones would have possibly sent people to look for him as they might notice that he was missing.

1.In the wilderness, despite thinking of the rescuers,or being rescued,Brian had to find food.To find shelter, and try to stay alive. But,Brian was more concerned in finding food than being rescued.Too concerned.Brian was afraid he would not be able to make it out alive.
2.I disagree with Brian.Even though Brian was not thinking about being rescued,he will be rescued. It is a good thing that Brian thinks about being rescued. It gives him a positive feeling that he will surely be rescued.By thinking about the searchers,Brian could would be driven by that positive feeling to look for food and shelter.

1. Maybe he had been too busy in keeping himself alive and in the same time, he must have also adapted to the surroundings that enable him to live without the help of anyone else.
2.No. Even though he did not think about them, he can work/find food normally. If he think about them, he will have self-pity on himself that make him not as strong as
before and he won't work as hard as before because his mentality had been fix that someone will still rescue him and he would
still be alive by then.

Reflection on Hatchet Debate

Within 1 hour, 39 pupils spoke out and shared some of their thoughts on a given topic and in so doing allowed others to have insight of their own beliefs and values - think of the 'Perfect Home' discussion.

I would like to applaud the 39 individuals for bringing such a professional quality to the debate - all contributed to its success and the 'energy' that resulted from this concerted effort will be converted into greater motivation for 6 Grace.

Please take time to reflect and share your thoughts on the following:

How did this debate affect my perceptions of myself?
In what ways did the debate fit my learning style?
Has it influenced the way I perceive English and Literature?
What did the debate show us about the 'tricks' authors use to captivate the heart and mind of the reader?

I had such pleasure hosting the debate and I felt the true magic of 6 Grace.

Please post your thoughts. Thank you.
