Brain thought he was rich as he had so many berries in his windbreaker and that was something important he needed there.Since, he had so many of it, it made him feel very rich.Just like in normal life, people need money to buy their daily neceesities and when they have the ability to do so, they would feel rich.Brian need to have food and berries is also a kind of food.he would not be hungry and then would be able to survive. The berries he had are just like money to him.
Well, I had somehow expierience what Brian had in the story, but I did not feel very 'rich' but quite 'rich' at the same time. Its a bit confusing but that is the feeling. It happened one early morning whan my family and I climbed the Bukit Timah Hill.I did not have my breakfast but just a cup of water.WhenI reach the submit, I felt very hungry. At the submit there was nothing to eat at the top of the hill, i felt like stranded. To be able to eat, I had to walk down and then, go opposite where the whole strech of food was.On the way down it was like I have not eaten for years and when I finally saw food,it was like...I was already used to the hunger! When the food came, it was just like normal breakfast, not very hungry, but I ate a lot for braekfast.Once I started eating I felt hungry and then the normal reaction would be to eat as much as possible and so I did.I felt 'rich' when I started eating but before I start eating I don't really feel 'rich' even when I see the food.

Q1 No, it is not strange. It is a normal reaction as he had not eaten such sweet, juicy food for a few days.He felt rich because he found food at last.Usually rich is used in money, but when you have something very precious to you and have little amount of it, you will feel that you are very rich.
Q2 Yes, I had this feeling before. Once, when i walked very far, i saw stallholders selling mineral water and bought the water and drank the whole bottle to quench my thirst. At this point, I felt rich just as Brian described.

I do not think it is strange. Brian felt very hungry and he needed something to eat. And when he found the berries, he must be feeling very happy. So he stuffed so many berries into his windbreaker and he needed to eat the berries so he will not die of hunger. Since he had alot more berries, it made him feel very rich with food. He also felt he had plenty of food and he can contain so many berries. When someone have something that is more than enough, like the concept of overflowing, they will feel very happy and will be thinking that they have so many things that can make them very happy. Example is when someone is very very thirsty and he meet a river. Of course, he will be very happy because he will think that he got unlimited supply of water now. Also when something is very precious to you, like how the berries was so precious to Brian when he was so hungry, you will think that you are very fortunate although the thing may not last you forever.

I felt I were 'rich' like Brian before. The story goes... There was once my family members went out to help my father in his office except for my sister. So I went home without the housekey. At that time, I thought someone would be at home because I forgotten all about it. So I rang the doorbell many times but to no avail. So I squatted outside the door and waited for my sister to come.
She went home about half an hour after me but she also did not have the housekeys. So I was very hungry because I did not eat anything in school. Suddenly, my neighbour came out and saw my sister and I in this state. She gave us two pieces of bread with sasuages on it.
Before this incident, I did not like to eat sasuages and bread. But during that time, I had no choice but to eat it. Because I was feeling so hungry. Even though the food came in little amount, but it was very precious to me even though I did not like that food. I felt very happy as I finally had food and will not be starved to death. Then later my neighbour gave us some drinks, I was so grateful to my neighbour. I felt very 'rich' because I had food and drinks to eat unlike those poor people in other country. Even this sentence is unrelated to the story, I would still tell everyone to treasure their things they have because people in other country has lives 10 times as worst as yours so do not waste food too.

Reflection on Hatchet Debate

Within 1 hour, 39 pupils spoke out and shared some of their thoughts on a given topic and in so doing allowed others to have insight of their own beliefs and values - think of the 'Perfect Home' discussion.

I would like to applaud the 39 individuals for bringing such a professional quality to the debate - all contributed to its success and the 'energy' that resulted from this concerted effort will be converted into greater motivation for 6 Grace.

Please take time to reflect and share your thoughts on the following:

How did this debate affect my perceptions of myself?
In what ways did the debate fit my learning style?
Has it influenced the way I perceive English and Literature?
What did the debate show us about the 'tricks' authors use to captivate the heart and mind of the reader?

I had such pleasure hosting the debate and I felt the true magic of 6 Grace.

Please post your thoughts. Thank you.
